Dwarfs

Summary:

Dwarfs are stout, strong, and intertwined in deeply enriched culture of their people. Most live in the underdark, but a few merchants, traders, and vagabonds do make their way to live on the surface. Standing no taller than 5’3 with long beards braided in intricate patterns, and the females usually have their hair long and decorated as well. Out of all the races of Shemdelver, dwarfs are the most reclusive, and are a sight to be seen on the surface. The dwarfs themselves had the smallest ripple that dramatized their people through the rule of the Old Balor Empire, and had little to do with the fall of the Empire as well. This in conjunction with their reclusiveness and highly culturalized ritual society usually makes them outsiders to the other races.

Dwarf Traits:

  • +2 Constitutions, -2 Charisma: Dwarves are tough and sturdy but isolated and reserved in their dealings with others.
  • Medium: As medium creatures, dwarves have no special bonuses or penalties due to their size.
  • Weapon Familiarity: Dwarves may treat dwarven waraxes and dwarven urgoshes as martial weapons, rather than as exotic weapons.
  • Darkvision: Dwarves can see in the dark up to 60 feet. Darkvision is black and white only, but it is otherwise like normal sight, and dwarves can function just fine with no light at all.
  • Resilient: Dwarves are notoriously tough, both against attacks and internal attacks. They gain a +2 to natural armor and +2 on saves against poison.
  • Spell Resistant: Dwarves are innately resistant to the power of magic. They gain a +2 racial bonus on saves against spells and spell-like effects, but dwarves who cast spells must always make a concentration check of 12+(effective spell level) to cast the spell as arcane magic and dwarfs don’t mix too well.
  • +2 racial bonuses on attack rolls when fighting with axes and hammers.
  • +2 on any check that tries to move or prone them, being naturally stable.
  • Dwarves receive a Damage reduction of 2 less wounded by adamantine.
  • Dwarves movement speed is 30, and dwarves can move at this speed even when wearing medium or heavy armor or when carrying a medium or heavy load.
